Described by The Hollywood Reporter as "one of the most familiar faces on TV," "Corornation Street" star Michael Le Vell has been charged with 19 child sex offenses, including raping a child and and sexual activity with a child.
Could these latest revelations been part of the ongoing BBC probe into Jimmy Savile and his apparent pedophilia ring which included entertainment executives and celebrities?
Le Vell was arrested for similar charges in 2011, but authorities dropped those charges. However, the case has been apparently reopened. From the Daily Mail:
"Alison Levitt, QC, principal legal adviser to the Director of Public Prosecutions, had reviewed a file of evidence in relation to allegations of sexual offences and looked again at a decision previously made not to prosecute. Charged: Michael Le Vell has been charged with child sex offences, whose real name is Michael Turner, will appear in court later this month Ms Levitt said: 'I have very carefully reviewed the evidence in this case and I have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Michael Robert Turner with a number of sexual offences."
This happens on the heels of possible revelations that Pope Benedict is allegedly seeking immunity from Italian President Giorgio Napolitano to "beg for immunity against prosecution for alleged child sex crimes." And, according to Addicting Info, it gets even weirder:
"Apparently, this hastily arranged meeting, and likely the resignation as well, are the result of a supposed note received by the Vatican from an undisclosed European government that stated that there are plans to issue a warrant for the Pope’s arrest. This letter was allegedly received on February 4, and Ratzinger resigned a week later."
In light of the career-destroying/life-ending implications of being caught as a pedophile, one has to wonder why these types keep going at it. Is it simply an uncontrollable sexual addiction?
While I think there is a component of sexual obsession/fetishization going on here (and that some may have these fetishes and never act on them), there is a much bigger picture at work. It is my belief that pedophilia is deeply ingrained in a number of societal institutions -- almost seen as "business as usual" or as one of the "perks" of privilege. This institutionalized child abuse is then almost like a symbol and function of Power -- going way beyond stories of raving sex maniacs and the like.
And I feel what these sexual predators are getting out of their horrible crimes is far more than sex -- it's far more "spiritual," in the most negative sense that can be conceived. Several people have talked about the philosophy behind this phenomenon -- and its origins are apparently ancient.
For now, we will see if anybody indeed gets brought to justice in these cases -- as I said in a post only a couple days ago:
"I expect many more important figures from entertainment, politics, religion, sports, and business to be so similarly exposed and forced out of office in the months and years to come; either for the actual crimes or the secondary crime of looking the other way while these crimes were going on. This is part of the overall Awakening gripping this planet. The center cannot hold."
