| A child is offered a red or blue sucker by Agent Smith. I wonder which one he wants the boy to choose? |
This WTF ad for GE software depicts a "friendly"(!) Agent Smith from the "Matrix" movies demonstrating how software can make your hospital stay better? You remember Agent Smith, don't you? Part of the self-aware computer system that was helping enslave mankind and keep them in the dark about their true origins. The guy who looks like a sinister Man In Black/CIA type. That guy.
But should it be so surprising in a pop-culture that has so recently embraced the government "suit" -- the Men in Black, the enforcers? Of course, we have the "Men In Black." We have Agent Coulson from "The Avengers," who has such a big fanbase that he's downright "cuddly." And how about all the Suits from shows like "Homeland" and movies like "Zero Dark Thirty?"
| "Brillaint Machines." Like the ones in "The Matrix that enslaved Mankind. |
In this environment, why not make Agent Smith a "good guy?" He's just trying to help humanity with his "brilliant machines."
You know who is truly a danger? That Neo guy. Him and Mulder. Unpredictable. Sloppy. Conspiracy freaks.
