More Aqua-pocalypse With "Oblivion" Poster; Plus, "Star Trek Into Darkness"

Posted on 14:59 by rajrani
The just-released poster for Tom Cruise's upcoming movie "Oblivion" features yet ANOTHER "New York Underwater" Aqua-pocalypse:

I also didn't want to let the new poster for "Star Trek Into Darkness" go without a mention:

Both the image and the new trailer feature the destruction/attack of a New York-type future world. Also, compare with the poster for "The Dark Knight Rises":

2012 Thoughts

Posted on 13:09 by rajrani

I did want to get in a comment or two about the "Mayan Apocalypse" looming swift over our heads.

I've been through two major "predicted" end-of-the-world dates, the first being Y2K and the second of course Mr. Harold Camping. These things are so silly that people literally count down the minutes and seconds towards the "end time," giving a rolling series of "whews!" across the globe as the world as they know it is miraculously still there.

The media has a lot to do with the hysteria over such predictions, though certainly our entertainment does a great job "seeding" the fear into us with dystopic visions for the entire family, from "Hunger Games" to "The Walking Dead." We are, in a way, "primed" to fear the worst. The result? A sense of helplessness and fatalism. An "enjoy life now" sort of mantra played over and over again in our subconscious, giving us "permission" to do any number of stupid things that will ultimately add up to our physical, mental, financial, and spiritual ruin.

The catchphrase of the moment is "YOLO" -- you only live once. It might as well be the catchphrase for this 2012 thing, a trademarked catchphrase for a largely marketed-out-of-whole cloth scenario. While I respect the opinions of some, like Terrence McKenna's "singularity" 2012 date and so on, it is clear to me that others have calculatingly used 2012 as a gimmick that launched a thousand ships.

This is not to say that I think it is possible that the world might end at some other date, though even the phrase "end of the world" is vague and unhelpful. Truth is, Earth has been literally overdue for some sort of massive wipe-out natural cataclysm for some time now -- in fact, it is a head-scratcher for some scientists why it hasn't happened yet.

Honestly, the fact that The End -- or rather, some sort of event that wipes out the world as we know it -- hasn't happened yet is very suspicious to me, as is our sudden rapid development in technology and (at least, for some) spiritual evolution since the turn of the century. In short, I believe that the reason things haven't "ended" yet is because we all (more or less) are literally keeping this solid reality around as a subconscious group effort. It is consensual reality practiced on a global scale -- with ever-increasing bits and pieces of us "popping off the grid" as we rise in consciousness.

And this "popping off the grid" is the true "Rapture." As more of us wake up to the true nature of existence, the consensual reality takes more and more of a "hit" -- weakening. And this scares the living hell out of people who have a "Nothing's Going To Change My World" attitude. That is their true "End of the World."

And so I see our current consensual reality as being "under attack" by this rising tide of new consciousness. Rather, people on the "losing" side of the evolutionary track (a track that up until recently has most been only about the physical/biological, but has now shifted to the spiritual) see this as an attack, as a herald of Doom. This fear is nakedly on display on Drudge Report on any given day.

And it is possible that 2012 marks the "tipping point," if you will. I can buy that.

What we really have to watch for are not these predicted doom dates, but the push-back from those who refuse to let go of the consensual reality they have known for so long. This push-back is everywhere, often using the poor, people of color, unions, women, and homosexuals as scapegoats.

But we have to defuse the push-back by not pushing back in return. We have to convert this negative energy into positive energy. That is literally our fucking mission at this point, and we each do it according to our special skills -- writing, blogging, social work, social activism, art, protests, journalism, movie-making, and a thousand little gestures and words sprinkled throughout our days.

Books of Revelations and tales of Mayan End-Times can have some interesting -- and even, to those who understand, valuable -- insights. But they are too easily used as electric prodding sticks to corral the masses.

I created this just to be a repository for assorted esoteric/synchromystic/weird pics and vids:

"The Cabinet Of Infinite Memory"

Sometimes I see syncs or other interesting bits that might not warrant a whole post here -- and sometimes, stuff I find for the Tumblr will kick off new ideas for long-form articles.

So if you're into that Tumblr thing -- or just want bite-sized bits of esoterica -- feel free to check it out! Thanks.

Requiem For The Doomed (And All The Mummified Cats)

Posted on 12:25 by rajrani

Two horrible news stories competed for my attention yesterday -- soul-crushing, hideous, gory news stories in which the actual "newsworthiness" to me was debatable.

In the first, a man was pushed to his death in front of a New York City subway train (the train line I use, just for an added fillip of dread). According to an MTA public service poster I noticed coincidentally the same day I later found out about the death, about 40+ people died from being struck by subway trains last year. But what made this particular item of such visceral impact is the way our humor paper, The New York Post, reported the story on its front page:

The altercation that proceeded this poor man's fall onto the tracks was also filmed by one type of mobile device or another -- the important thing is, it was recorded. Recorded, another trifle on the iPhones and tablets and other gadgets. As I've pointed out in a previous post on a knife-wielding man who was shot in Times Square, the citizenry always are sure to record such anomalous events and tragedies on their devices, watch through lenses and screens at the gory drama about to unfold.

Then the Media covers the event, replicates and magnifies certain images for mass consumption. But the NYP cover is probably one of the most blood-curdling, "bread and circuses" tableau I've ever seen.

What is the accumulated mental impact on the populace as the result of being exposed to such horrors?

The second, barely "news" story was a segment on the show "Hoarders," about essentially the Ed Gein of cat hoarders. Cat owners, I will spare you the details, but it was the most disgusting, soul-ripping situation you can possibly imagine. This, coupled with an obviously deeply emotionally ill woman crying, cradling a mummified cat/cat-head in her arms and admitting she has lost all control.

If there is any real news about these two stories, it's about the inadequate mental health services provided to people in this country -- meager resources that are constantly in danger of being cut from governmental budgets. But you'll never see such items framed in such a way. That would be boring.

I write this in the context of a horrible nightmare I had last night. It started with a man, possibly a veteran, returning from war. He looks at all the giant ads and billboards surrounding him, and the symbolism really disturbs him -- triggers off deep post-traumatic stress issues. These are ads and signs not just containing violent imagery, but just deep, symbolic stuff that creates a sense of vertigo and cognitive dissonance.

As the dream continues, the man turns to me and tells me that I am the only one who can unlock the mystery of what has happened to men like him -- people who have been purposely fucked-up and mentally destroyed in these sorts of "experiments." These experiments involve the use of repeated imagery and sound -- I suppose MK-Ultra type stuff. He says the answers are "locked in his head," though there are books and other notes around the room I might be able to get more information from.

Then the scene switches to a room full of people -- regular people you'd find anywhere. A tone is played, and a certain light is flashed, and these people turn on each other, trying to kill each other with their bare hands and anything they find in the room. They become like complete animals. It's like something out of "The Manchurian Candidate," but with regular people not soldiers, and far more brutal.

Which reminds me of "The Walking Dead," and of this recent news story of a man who shot his girlfriend in the back with a rifle over an argument regarding the show. The substance of the argument? The suspect was convinced that a zombie-apocalypse type scenario might happen:

"...he felt very adamant that there could be some type of military mishap that would result in some sort of virus or something being released that could cause terrible things to happen."

I'm going to wind this all up with mentioning once again the "Summer of Shootings" that just passed, starting with the "Dark Knight" one in Aurora and quickly escalating to almost one a week. After a while, we still got those shooting stories...but they weren't big news anymore, barely a Twitter Trend.

Bored again. What will be the new Hotness? The Royal Messiahs? Junk Food Shortages?

Anyway, I also write a blog on Wellness, and really try to focus on strategies to shield oneself -- or at least purge the toxins -- from being exposed to all this. I don't believe in being sheltered. But we need the critical thinking ability to put what we see in context. And we need to Consume Content Consciously.

Merry Christmas from Kate Middleton, Princess Amidala, the Virgin Mary, And Isis

Posted on 12:34 by rajrani

Had a lot of dreams last night about Isis/Horus symbolism and how it relates to the Aeon of Horus/New Age/"Age of Aquarius." Horus = the "Kid Messiah" of pop-culture, who grows up to be a being of immense power. You can read about the recurring imagery of this figure in this recent post about the movie "Looper."

Wondering why had so many dreams of mother/child, classic Mary/Jesus & Isis/Horus symbols: now I think I know:

...and now we know what will be dominating the news cycle for the next week...maybe leading up all the way into Dec. 25th! (what a coincidence!)

Let's go back to this Jezebel post about Kate being "modeled" after the Virgin Mary on a magazine cover...that sort of "subliminal" imagery:

"British Tatler didn't get an interview with Kate Middleton for its new issue — the cover is a file photo, and the story inside is just a list of (bizarre, mostly pregnancy related) advice to her. The chosen photo, however, calls to mind nothing so much as religious iconography. The soft focus, the obscure, apparently sourceless golden light, the gentle incline of her head, the beatific smile: Kate Middleton looks like one of those Jesus plates you see at thrift stores."
Note the "pregnancy-related" advice to her aspect in the magazine...and now, just in time for the start of the holiday season:

Further, she might be having TWINS --

-- a very powerful "kid-messiah" type symbol, as well as tying in to another Mary-Like mythology that concerns very important twins:

Let's bring this all around with Isis imagery and Kate's "topless" scandal:

In order to have the "full" goddess symbolism, you need the nudity as well as the "virginal" qualities...Isis and Mary just two sides of the same coin:

Folks, you have just received...

Welcome to the new age, circa December 2012, more or less on schedule.
We will keep you posted.

"Looper" And The New Aeon Part 2: Joe and Jesus

Posted on 17:35 by rajrani
Old Joe and Young Joe
"This is my life now, I earned it, you've had yours already. So why don't you do what old men do and die? Get the fuck out of my way." — Young Joe, "Looper"
"And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved." —Luke 5:36-38, KJV
"Looper" is a movie ostensibly about time travel -- but takes a strange turn about halfway and becomes a parable about the dawning of a new Aeon of humanity. Last post, we looked at the character Cid and how he represented a recurring trope in pop-culture: that of the kid-messiah, alternatively known as Horus/"Anti-Christ." In this article we will turn our focus to the characters of "Young" Joe Simmons, and his future counterpart "Old" Joe. Obviously, there will be many "spoilers" here.

II. "Old Joe" Is Representative of the Aeon Of Osiris/Old Testament

When "Old Joe" first appears in the life of "Young Joe," he seems like a wise, older, paternal figure we can trust. He is convinced that the seemingly omnipotent Rainmaker, a figure that he claimed was causing widespread destruction in the future, had to be stopped. But soon we find out Old Joe has more in common with the Terminator robot than as a true savior.

Terminator: Unforgiving
The moment Old Joe carries out the murders of little children in the name of his "quest," all his credibility as our theoretical hero -- much less someone that can teach Young Joe to be a better person. Slaughtering innocents to root out the "kid-messiah" -- this is Herod-style behavior. And it carries with it the occasional brutality of Old Testament-style logic (God telling Abraham to kill his son Issac).

Abraham about to sacrifice his son Issac

Old Joe represents the Osirian Aeon -- the one of organized religion, of the Dying God, of the Aeon that is passing. He is obsessed with preserving the past, even to the point of literally traveling back to it and -- in his plan to assassinate the "Kid-Messiah" Cid -- kill the potential of the future. Thus Young Joe tells him in the diner scene: "So why don't you do what old men do and die? Get the fuck out of my way."

Old-School Justice: Abe in "Looper"
Interesting to note that Young Joe's unforgiving, brutal boss is named Abe -- like the Biblical patriarch Abraham. His law is absolute, with punishment for infractions severe. Though he and Old Joe are seemingly at odds, Abe also wants Cid dead, and sends his own assassins after him (in a strange sync, the hired killer that gets the closest to Cid resembles Michael Biehn, who played John Connor's father in the original "Terminator"). Abe has already been "cast out" of the future by Cid, known as The Rainmaker, a future that resembles the fire-and-brimstone of Revelations.

The "angry" God
The name "Joe" is also reminiscent of that of the Biblical patriarchs, such as Joseph, son of Jacob. Much like that Joseph, Young Joe was literally "sold" as a boy into a slavery of sorts. But as an old man, Joe is filled to the brim with the fury of an Old Testament God, raging at an Aeon that is steadily passing away.

But Young Joe represents another Biblical character...

III. Young Joe Is Jesus

There are many parallels between Joseph of the Old Testament and Jesus of the New Testament, to the point where it has been suggested that the latter was just a re-representation of the former. Edgar Cayce went so far as to claim Jesus was the reincarnation of Jesus.

If Old Joe = Old Testament Joseph, then Young Joe is the New Testament Jesus. Further, Old Joe = Old Testament God, and the paradox of how both Joes can be two and also one mirrors "I am the Father and the Son" quality/dilemma of Jesus Christ. And there's a part of "Looper" where he is, at least subliminally, connected with Jesus. From the scene where his friend Seth (another esoterically "loaded" name) comes to Young Joe for help:

Seth: Ssh! They'll be here any minute. Are they here?
Joe: No. Who?
Seth: Oh, Christ! Joe! Christ!

Pieces of silver

But unlike Jesus, Young Joe takes on the actions of the god's opposite number: Judas. The Biblical tie couldn't be more clear with Young Joe accepting the bars of silver in exchange for Seth's life. This will be not the only "flipside" to the established mythologies -- the most glaring one being "Anti-Christ" child Cid being actually a symbol of hope, as well as "wise mentor" Old Joe being a murderous maniac.

And since we're on the topic of the Aeons of Osiris and Horus, there's one more flipside: the character of Seth -- "Set" -- being cut into pieces, as Set did to Osiris.

Set scatters the cut-up pieces of Osiris
The passing of the Aeon of Osiris would necessarily mean the passing of Jesus, as well as the Old Testament God. However, though Young Joe shares a love of "antiquity" with Old Joe, he knows intuitively that destroying the potential of the future to re-instate an "idyllic" past is wrong. And killing little kids in order to make this happen is also wrong. Looking into the face of Old Joe, Young Joe realizes that this is not what he wants to become. The real Jesus would not chain the world down with an old dogma.

This is not who he wants to be.
Young Joe decides to protect Cid -- "Kid-Messiah" from Old Joe. But in the end, he realizes that the only way to resolve this ancient, seemingly endless loop of humanity being chained down by this procession of Gods is to end it. And so he does what the Dying God does  -- he turns the gun on himself and dies, taking Old Joe with him.

However, this is not the Jesus-figure touted by organized religion, filled with "thou nots." This is the Cosmic Christ. This is the Vegetable God, literally sacrificed in a field, so the new era might grow.

Cosmic Christ, by Alex Grey
How do we know that Cid might not grow up to be that "Anti-Christ" -- that destructive force?

Cid/mom; Horus/Isis
Well, see, I think it is all at how you are coming at this story -- and religion in general -- from your own reality tunnel. The Big Change -- whether it be at 2012, or 2020, or already in progress -- is going to happen. The Old Ways are going to die. This is inevitable. To some, this is categorized as an "Apocalypse."

But we can also embrace change. Instead of shunning Cid, Young Joe embraced him. Young Joe knew that by welcoming the New Aeon, that of Horus, with hostility and death would only beget more hostility and death.

In the end, we create our own realities, chose which reality tunnels to follow. Young Joe realized that things didn't have to be "fated" -- that we all don't have to collapse in a terror-filled blob at the prospect of grisly prophecies of the future. Young Joe's Hero Journey ended with him learning about Choice. And in a world rapidly changing, we must also exercise that option of Choosing, and choosing Love, Life, Growth, Potential, and Evolution.
